For many young baseball and softball players, the year revolves around their sport. Here’s how parents can equip their athletes with off season baseball workouts. This extra encouragement can help them perform – and feel- their best while playing a sport they love. 

Off Season Baseball Workouts and Training 

The off season is a great time to focus on honing specific skills. This could mean sessions in the batting cages, practicing pitching or fielding skill drills Consistency is key, even if it’s just a few times a week.  

Whether you enroll your athlete in a training camp, book sessions with a coach or simply play catch in the yard, make sure they have what they need to succeed.  

You can also encourage your child to engage in a workout routine to maintain strength, speed and agility. Incorporate exercises like squats, lunges, planks and sprints, which are beneficial for both baseball and softball players. 

Staying Active and Having Fun 

Your child can prepare for the baseball or softball season in a variety of ways – and many of them don’t include sport-specific workouts and training.

This can help prevent burnout and keep sports fun. Encourage them to enjoy the process of learning and improving, rather than just focusing on outcomes.  

It’s also important to remind them to rest, physically and mentally. Overtraining can lead to fatigue, declining performance and injuries. Rest is important for muscle recovery as well as overall health and wellness.
